Because I’m downtown so much, I often eat at restaurants in that area and often neglect my own backyard. But once in awhile I eat in, so to speak. I live in Vaughan, the city North of Toronto, and while it doesn’t have more than 7000 restaurants like Toronto, it does have a few gems of it’s own.
I live right inbetween Maple and Woodbridge, both known to have large populations of Italians. So finding an Italian restaurant is fairly easy.
Marcello’s is located in the plaza right outside Vaughan Mills mall on Rutherford after Jane. Their dining room has a very open concept and because it’s a family restaurant, it can get pretty loud at times. But it does give you a warm feeling since everyone if so friendly with each other.
My Pizza Di Parma was deliciously garnished with roasted garlic, asiago cheese, arugula and prosciutto. I love this pizza because it’s a white pizza so there’s no tomato sauce! This focuses the attention on what’s on top.
My friend’s Melanzana Pizza had tomato sauce, goat cheese, roasted red peppers and grilled eggplant. It was a bit spicy but that gave it a nice kick. It could use something though, maybe some mushrooms?
The Fiorellini Fantasia is flower-shaped pasta with grilled chicken, spinach and roasted red peppers in a tomato cream sauce. To be honest, I don’t see the “flowers” but to each their own.
While it was yummy, I was expecting more. I’ve heard a lot of good things about them and I may have set the bar really high in my mind. If you’re reading this because you’re thinking of grabbing a bite here, please do. The staff is friendly and the food comes out pipping hot!
